Race Relations Day - 21 March 2018

We celebrated Race Relations Day in Room 33 by dressing up in our cultural clothing, talking about why it is important to celebrate this day, working together in groups to demonstrate our understanding and also writing a summary about what Race Relations Day is.

This year Race Relations Day was on the 21st of March, with the theme of ‘Give Nothing to Racism’. It’s a day for eliminating racial discrimination. Almost every country celebrate this event, but celebrate it on different dates - like U.A.E celebrate it on the 25th of February and Canada celebrate it on 21st of June. It started in 2003 with the theme ‘Hands Up Kiwis for Every Race and Place’.

We all should celebrate race relations day because it’s a time to reflect on the journey towards being a inclusive nation.

On the 21st of March in 2003, Race Relations Day started. It’s now 2018 and it’s still going on. You celebrate Race Relations Day by dressing up in your traditional clothing and being proud of your culture. It's a time to reflect on your journey towards being part of a culturally diverse and inclusive nation. You can also celebrate it by doing cultural dances to present your culture. In some schools, they do speech competitions about Race Relations Day, so they can learn more about this special day. Race Relations Day is a fun day!
